That Gun is probably one of the better weapons in the game statistically. Sure it can only take 5 bullets at a time but it has a 2.5 crit multiplier which is massive. That means that if you have 10 luck, boone's hat, finesse and built to destroy you have 57.5% chance to crit on a regular hit. There are other ways to increase that ( like the elite riot gear from Lonesome Road that rings it up to 70%) but the ones I listed are the easiest. Oh, and it's technically a revolver so its affected by the cowboy perk giving it 25% increase to damage. It takes 5.57mm ammo which is extremely common and (aside from its common variant the 5.57mm pistol from the GRA DLC) its the only pistol that can use armor peiring rounds. If you get better criticals and the professional it gets a significant boost to its crit damage too.
So basically its not only extremely powerful but also reliable. You can use it forever without it being a problem.
I always go high luck characters, so I can break all the casinos, so I usually use That Gun a lot.
Special mention for lucky which just looks completely badass.

“The .30 Cal Garand was the first automatic rifle to be used as the standard infantry weapon of a major army when it was adopted by the U.S. Army in 1936. Its rugged construction and reliability make this weapon a popular and valuable addition to anyone.”— Fallout Tactics description
The M1 Garand is a Small Guns skill weapon in Fallout Tactics.
BackgroundEdit
The M1 Garand, surnamed 'the greatest battle implement ever devised', was created in 1936 by John Cantius Garand and was the first semi-automatic rifle to be generally issued into the U.S. Army. It is a .30-06 gas-operated, semi-automatic, 8 shot clip-fed rifle. It provides good accuracy up to 100 m and begins to decline sharply from 300 m. It has a respectable rate of fire and is also easy to disassemble and clean.
LocationsEdit

- Quincy, carried by two beastlords. One is outside the town hall, while another is atop the detention center.
- Mardin, carried by five beastlords.

This Machine is a unique battle rifle in Fallout: New Vegas.
Fallout New Vegas M1 Garand Mod Download
CharacteristicsEdit
This Machine is a unique battle rifle chambered in .308 caliber round, holding up to eight rounds at a time and is received in excellent condition thanks to Contreras' personal access to parts. Along the rifle's left side are the words 'WELL THIS MACHINE KILLS COMMIES,' seeming to imply that this gun was used by American soldiers during the Resource Wars. This rifle is effective in short-to-mid range combat. However, long range combat is difficult because of the gun's relatively wide spread.
Without Gun Runners' Arsenal, This Machine has no non-unique counterpart.
DurabilityEdit
This Machine can fire a total of about 2995 standard rounds, the equivalent of 375 reloads, from full condition before breaking.

NotesEdit
Like all Mojave Wasteland unique weapons, This Machine may be used to obtain the Curios and Relics achievement/trophy.
Behind the scenesEdit
- Although based off the M1 Garand, This Machine is not an exact reproduction.[1]
- Though commonly chambered in .30-06, some M1 Garands did in fact see conversion to .308 for Navy use due to a limited availability of the M14 in the 1950's.
- This Machine has the exact same weight as the official weight in pounds of the M1 Garand, loads through the top of the weapon with the exact same en bloc 8-round clip, and makes the exact same distinctive 'ping' when it automatically ejects the clip after firing the last round. It also has about the same cyclic rate of fire as the M1 Garand, 40-50 rounds per minute.
- This Machine is a reference to Woodie Guthrie's guitar, which had a sticker stating 'This Machine Kills Fascists' emblazoned on it. This Machine has the statement 'Well This Machine Kills Commies' seemingly phrased as a direct reply, carved into its side.
- In the game's files, as well as the G.E.C.K, This Machine is referred to as 'WeapNVBattleRifleUnique,' hinting that it was originally supposed to be the unique variant of a cut 'battle rifle.' The battle rifle later appears in Gun Runners' Arsenal as the common variant, albeit exclusively available from merchants.
BugsEdit
- PCXbox 360 In some games, This Machine will never degrade below 80%. [verified]
- PCXbox 360 The weapon's sights are not properly zeroed. The bullet fires slightly left of the iron sights, making medium to long range shots very difficult. [verified]
- Playstation 3 The inscription on the left side of the rifle will sometimes disappear.[verified]
- PCXbox 360 This gun can be grabbed twice providing you expose his drug dealing to Boyd first, then finish everything with the medical supplies at Miguel's Pawnshop without killing the NCR ranger there and then hack his computer and expose him again to Boyd. [verified]

Brotherhood
3 years agoI mean, just the US service rifles? I can understand there not being any AR-15/M16 pattern rifles (The M16A1 was designed in the early 1960's, and the timeline split in between our universe and the fallout universe was around 1945) even though they're there in new vegas, but before the timeline split our universes where more or less the same. I mean, we should be seeing some M1 Carbines and Garands, we've got the Thompson, but there should be 1911's, Single Action Army revolvers, M3 Grease guns, etc. It just seems that there's a LOT of missing firearms in Fallout 4 (yes I'm aware that New Vegas had almost all the ones I listed), that really should be there. I mean, the 1911 pistol alone is still one of the most popular pistols in America, you'd think there'd be at least a few floating around in Fallout 4.

Another thing I find really annoying is the modding system. Don't get me wrong, I like the weapon mod system, but it seems really lack luster. I mean, a lot of the mods are either useless on one config or another, or their just upgraded versions of another mod. For example, a med-high power scope is useless on a short range automatic combat rifle.
And the upgrade mods. There are really only 3 (sometimes 4) receiver mods (Semi-auto, Full Auto, and different caliber/ammo), and the rest are just upgraded version of the base 3 or 4. A powerful receiver is just a more damaging version of the hardened receiver. The Muzzle brake is just a more powerful version of the compensator. It just seems that if there's, say, 30 potential configurations for a gun (just a number that's probably very wrong), after taking away the useless combinations and upgrade mods, there's only about 6-10 configurations (once again, just a number, most likely very wrong)
