Unlockables
Successfully complete the indicated task to unlock the corresponding bonus the next time a new game is started. Once the game is completed, the 'New Game +' option is also unlocked, which allows you to use your existing character with previously earned equipment and skills.
To play the hidden mission in the Plutus system of the Hades Gamma Cluster, get 75% Renegade. To play the hidden mission in the Cacus system, get 75% Paragon.
Infinite credits
The following trick only works between the two indicated vendors. You can usually buy items back from Expat at half the price you sold them to Dr. Michel for. First, successfully complete the side quest involving Dr. Michel (from the Med Clinic) and her blackmailer. After the quest is complete, you will get a discount from all the goods she sells. Start selling her all of your expensive equipment. Then, travel to the Wards Markets, and talk to the merchant named Expat. You can buy all of your items back for cheaper than you sold them for. Return to Dr. Michel, and sell her all of your items again. Repeat this process as many times as desired.
Infinite Paragon points
Go to your Galaxy Map, and travel to the Attican Beta cluster. You will receive a message from the Alliance Command telling you about a downed recon probe that you must retrieve a data module from. From there, travel to the Hercules system, and continue to the planet Eletania. After you reach the downed probe, you will discover that a monkey-like native has made off with the data module. Get back in the Mako, and go to your map. You will see three native colonies. Go towards the one in the middle of the three. Then, go into the mining shaft, and proceed through the tunnels until you reach the end. Search the two monkeys in that part of the shaft. One of them will have the data module. Save the game immediately after getting the module. Then, reload the saved game, and continue to press A to keep searching the monkey that had the data module. Your Paragon meter over the radar should increase each time you select the monkey. At approximately 300 Paragon, you will get the 'Paragon' achievement. Note: If you have already completed this assignment, this glitch cannot be done.
Infinite Paragon and Renegade points
On the Noveria planet, go to the hotel bar, and look for a Turian named Lorik Qui'in. Accept his quest to steal the data from his office. Once you get the data, the receptionist will ask you to get Qui'in to testify. Tell her you will do it, and then talk to Qui'in. Tell Qui'in that he should testify (top left option). When he refuses, select the Charm option (top left) for Paragon points or the Intimidate (bottom left) for Renegade points, and end the conversation. Talk to him again, and ask about the Matriarch. When he gets done talking about her, select the 'Other questions' option (bottom right). You should now have the option to ask him to testify again (top left). He will refuse, and you will be able to use the Charm or Intimidate option again to gain another 24 Paragon or Renegade points. Repeat this process as many times as desired. You can also easily get the 'Paragon' and 'Renegade' achievements with the glitch.
Easy experience points
To gain extra experience from battles, make sure to get out of the Mako for the final hit. You can weaken the stronger enemies from inside the Mako and then get out to finish them off. You will only get 60% of the experience if you kill enemies with the Mako.
Easy Mako repairs
If your Mako is badly damaged and you do not want to or cannot spend Omni-gel to repair it, save your game, and reload it. Your Mako should now be totally repaired.
Weapon that does not overheat
Get a HMWA X assault rifle with Frictionless Materials, Combat Optics X, and Snowblind Rounds X as upgrades.
Saving weapon points
If you are a Soldier, level up weapons so you can use their bonuses and no further. For example, carnage is the shotgun's bonus. By doing this, you will have extra points for a desired weapon and points to level everything else completely out. You do not need the damage and accuracy bonus from the points because when you become a Spectre the best of every weapon becomes unlocked in the Normandy or at the C-SEC requisitions office.
Lethal sniping
Equip any good sniper rifle (powerful and accurate) with High Explosive Rounds (highest level preferably). This combination will kill nearly every normal enemy it directly hits, and severely damage enemies in their proximity, if not killing them as well. For fun, if you shoot at the enemy's feet or the ground he is standing directly on top of, he will jettison into the air. Note: High Explosive Rounds work best only with sniper rifles as they are meant to kill with one shot. If it is used with a pistol, assault rifle, or shotgun, the weapon will overheat in less than five shots (depending on the type of weapon), regardless of upgrades and decency of the gun. This will make yourself vulnerable to enemies.
Recommended weapon upgrades
The best weapon upgrades on any gun are Frictionless Materials X (28% heat damping, +7% damage), Kinetic Coil X (28% weapon stability, +7% damage), and Slegdehammer Rounds X (50% weapons force, + 60% poison damage, - 20 heat damping). Overall, the weapons stats you will end up with are 14% damage, +28 weapon stability, +50% weapon force, +60 poison, +8% heat damping. The poison damage also prevents shield regeneration. Also, any of the following combo of any grade is the best.
To build the most powerful weapons in the game, use the following. For pistols, assault rifles, and shotguns, use Frictionless Materials, Scram Rail, and Inferno Rounds. Once you can get the 'X' level equipment, these will be the most powerful weapons in the game, but the combination should be used at any point you find these materials. For the sniper rifle, use two Frictionless Materials and High Explosive Rounds. The assault rifle will not overheat much at all, but for an assault rifle that does not overheat, you can use two Scram Rails and Snowblind Rounds. It is not as powerful as the first method, but is efficient.
Finding all elements
The best way to find the elements, minerals, and anomalies on planets that you can explore is to drive along the edges of the operational area (the red area). Drive the Mako in a circle around the area to where you can barely see the edge of the red line. You should find at least two elements/minerals on each planet that can be explored. There are rare things that will not show up on your map -- you will also have to drive around like this to find them. There are several more items than you are required to find, but it is good to go ahead and get them if you need the experience points. Also, if you say the correct things to the Asari Consort, she will give you a trinket that will allow you to activate a Prothean Orb found on Eletania, or the 'monkey' planet, in the Hercules system. It contains the memories of a Cro-Magnon that was observed by the Protheans. The Orb will show up as an anomaly on your map, in the lower left corner.
Character classes
Adepts
Adepts are biotic specialists. Starting out equipped with pistols and light armor, the true strength of the adept is through the upgradeable implants that give them their biotic powers. These powers can be used to lift or throw objects, shield the party, and disable or destroy enemies.
Engineers
Engineers are tech specialists. Using the holographic OmniTool, they can decrypt security systems, repair and/or modify technical equipment, disrupt enemy weapons or shields, and heal their party. Even though they begin the game with only pistols and the OmniTool, engineers can unlock the ability to wear light armor and reverse engineer enemy technology. They can also learn to put up protective shields and heal the party.
Infiltrators
Infiltrators combine combat and tech abilities, and specialize in killing or disabling enemies at long range. Infiltrators are trained to use OmniTools, but the focus is on decryption and offensive abilities rather than healing. They can train with pistols or sniper rifles, and can learn to wear medium armor.
Sentinels
Sentinels combine biotic and tech abilities. Typically they use biotic abilities and advanced healing skills to defend allies, though they can also disrupt opponents with biotic or Tech attacks. They are more efficient at tech and biotics than other classes, but at the expense of combat. Sentinels can only use light armor, and receive no advanced weapon training.
Soldiers
Soldiers are combat specialists ideal for the front lines of a firefight. Soldiers begin the game trained with skills in both pistols and assault rifles, they have improved health and the ability to wear medium combat armor. As you progress through the game, you can unlock assault training, skills with shotguns and sniper rifles, become able to perform first aid on yourself and party members, and wear heavy combat armor.
Vanguards
Vanguards are biotic warriors. They combine offensive biotic abilities and weapons training to quickly take down opponents, and are especially deadly at short range. They can train with pistols and shotguns, and can learn to wear medium armor.
Play as a War Hero Soldier first. By doing this, during your second play through you will have all of the money, weapons, and armor to use for the other careers.
Ensuring experience points and gamerpoints
After a major plot has been played, make sure to talk to your crew. This will give you experience points for clues and boost your crew's morale. There is also a subplot for romance where you must choose who you want to have a relation with. You may lose the gamerpoints if you do not talk to the crew.
Scan the Keepers in Citadel
After you speak to Chorban in the Citadel Tower, he will request that you scan the Keepers to collect data. There are 21 Keepers total throughout the compound. You will forfeit the chance to do this sidequest if you complete Jahleed's Fears. Here is a list of their locations:
Wards
Presidium
While in the FLux, you will see a Quasar Machine that has a strange signal coming from it. It traces to the following place in order:
Wards Access Corridor: From the Medical Clinic, go to and up the elevator that takes you toward the Presidium. Take this corridor to a little area where people are talking. Check the terminal on the wall.
Financial District: Check Volus' Office, behind Volus.
Emporium: Turn right coming out of Volus' office, and go past the Emporium Shopkeeper to a back hallway. Then, turn right again. Here you will encounter an A.I. that threatens to blow you and itself up. After the conversation, select the A.I., and input the code to override. Finish before it is done Siphoning off credits, and you will get those credits. The amount varies, but you will get more the faster you enter the override code.
In the ExoGeni facility, there are several claws that feed power that must be terminated to continue the mission. You will come across a control panel for the Shuttle Bay Door Controls. This panel has five switches of different pressures:
The objective is to add just enough pressure to fill the gauge between the two arrows. Too much will reset the puzzle and you will have to play with different combinations. Once a correct pressure is reached, the bar will turn yellow and text under it will read 'WARNING, HIGH PRESSURE'. Enter 7, 11, and 13, then activate. This will create enough pressure to break the claw and deactivate the Geth power being flushed into ExoGeni.
Puzzle solution in Noveria
On the planet Noveria, you must solve a puzzle after you enter the Core at Mira to restore activity to the compound. The solution is as follows. There are three columns. Four discs are in the left column. You must move all four discs to column two or three for the puzzle to be completed. '1' indicates the upper most ring, '4' is the lowest, etc.
Step 1
Step 2
Step 3
Step 4
These steps will solve the puzzle with all four discs being in the right column.
Defeating the giant worm in Edolus
During the mission about the missing Marines, you will encounter a large worm creature. To defeat it, jump just before the projectile acid the worm spits, and attack it with missiles and constant gunfire.
Defeating Thresher Maw in Edolus
The easiest way to defeat the Thresher Maw is after it has initially launched out of the ground to drive off, stay at a relative distance, and drive circles around it while firing. Because of your distance, it will not use its long-ranged attack or be able to cause melee damage. It will go back underground after a time or certain amount of damage is inflicted and will change the location it pops up. Repeat the circular attack to get away undamaged.
Defeating Saren (before resurrection)
Use your rifle and strafe to avoid his rocket fire. Alternately, use the following trick to defeat Sarren without fighting him the first time in the Citadel. If you have your Charm or Intimidation all the way up, use the new chat options. You will eventually make Sarren kill himself.
Defeating Saren (after resurrection)
Have your crew and yourself use biotic powers everytime Saren stops to shoot (usually when he is hanging on the wall). Only do it once when he stops, otherwise you will be wasting abilities.
Reversed Earth
Once you have landed on Luna, Earth's moon, look for the view of Earth. When you zoom in on Earth, noticed that its image is reversed. For example, Florida is where California should be and vice versa.
'Scholar' achievement codex locations
This achievement requires that you locate information on all primary Alien: Council Races, Extinct Races, and Non-Council Races.
Aliens: Council Races
Asari: Speak with Captain Anderson after the first meeting with the council.
Salarians: Speak with Captain Anderson after the first meeting with the council.
Turians: If you miss it at the beginning of the game, you can get it by speaking to people about Specters and Saran. Otherwise, it should appear after your first encounter with Ashley.
Aliens: Extinct Races
Rachni: Speak with the VI Avina near the Consort Chambers/Krogran Statue about the Rachni wars.
Protheans: Speak with Captain Anderson and Nihlus on the Normandy at the beginning of the game in the Communications Room. This is your only chance in the game to get this codex. If you miss it, you will not be able to recover it later in the game.
Aliens: Non-Council Races
Batarians: After you become a Spectre, speak with Captain Anderson about his Spectre activities at the Docking Bay.
Elcor: Speak with the diplomat Calyn in the embassy. He is located at the end of the hallway to the right of the Embassy Clerk next to Udina's office.
Geth: While on the mission Eden Prime you will receive this codex automatically.
Hanar: Speak with the Hanar Shopkeeper at the Emporium.
Keepers: Speak with the VI Avina in the northwest part of the Presidium. She is very close to the Preaching Hanar and C-Sec Turian whom are arguing.
Krogan: You get this automatically by entering Choras Den. A scene will play showing the Krogran Wrex.
Quarians: Speak with Garrus in the medical center after fighting the thugs.
Volus: Talk to the VI Avina closest to the Embassy Clerk. You will get this by asking the VI why the Volus were the first race to get an embassy.
Find a planet that has a Hazard level 1. Stand outside the Mako, and keep pressing [Heal]. Keep track of how many times you pressed [Heal]. If you do not pay attention and run out of Medi-Gel, you could die from the Hazard level.
Easy ally achievements
Use the following trick to unlock all six ally achievements with only three playthroughs. When you start the game, focus on getting all six of your teammates. Choose two of them to play through the game with. Keep those two until you complete the majority of the game. You will get the ally achievement for the teammate you recruited first. After you get it, replace that teammate with another one as soon as possible. After the next assignment you complete, you will then unlock the ally achievement for the second teammate.
Easy skill achievements
The quickest way to get the skill achievements (Lift, Sabotage, Warp, etc.) is to stand outside the Mako and use it for a target. Do each skill with your current character 75 times to get the achievements for each one. However, there are two things to note. First, Neuroshock does damage to the Mako. When you see it beginning to smoke, you must repair it. Second, AI Hacking does not apply. You will need to actually hack 75 AIs or hack a few repeatedly before you must destroy them. The best way to get this achievement is to play the mission where you must go to the Earth's moon, or 'Luna', and stop the AIs in the training facility. Save the game before you go into one of the bunkers, and keep hacking them until you are finished, or reload and play again.

I did some missions on the Quarian's home world. In previous games I found out that:
Quarians wear suits and masks, so that they don't get infected by the 'air' in stations and other planets. But now doing missions on their planet Rannoch, Tali and even other of her race are still wearing their helmets and suits.
Why Quarians still stay protected even on their home world?

1 Answer
The Quarians have a very weak immune system, both biologically because their origin planet's has no insect life (I'm not sure how that worked, but that's the lore).
Compounded with several centuries of living on sterile ships made their immune system even weaker, to the point that they require, essentially, self contained biohazard suits.
Putting on and taking off the suits is, in and of itself a dangerous task:
A quarian who wishes to remove their suit must take antibiotics, immuno-boosters, herbal supplements, or the like in order to do so safely, and even then there are inherent risks
Taking it off just so they can be on their planet is, pretty much, a deadly idea for them.
Edit:A second reason is: This is a combat mission, they're not just life support suits, they're also combat armor. Why make an expensive combat suit just for one mission?

(Redirected from Quarian)
Tali'Zorah is a fictional character of the quarian alien race in BioWare's Mass Effect franchise, who serves as a party member (or 'squadmate') in all three games in the Mass Effect trilogy. Within the series, she is a skilled technician and the daughter of Rael'Zorah, a member of the quarian judicial review Admiralty Board. Ash 'Liz' Sroka voices Tali in each of her appearances. Outside of the trilogy, Tali appears in Mass Effect: Homeworlds, a comic series with individual issues on each of several Mass Effect 3 squadmates.
Tali was initially the only quarian in the series. In the sequels, more extreme variations of her design were discarded in favor of revisions on her previous look. The Mass Effect 3 development team considered her removal from the squad, but ultimately chose to include her due to staff interest. The team also debated whether to reveal her masked face.
Tali has been received positively, with placements on several 'top character' lists, and is one of the more popular characters in the series. Her unveiled face was a popular online discussion topic, and was criticized after its reveal for its stock photo origins. Various merchandise for the character, as with other of the series' squadmates, has been released.
Mass Effect Quarian Ark
Character overview[edit]
Tali is a quarian, one of a nomadic alien race driven from their homeworld, Rannoch, by a race of software-based intelligences which they created, the geth. As a quarian, Tali must wear a full-body environmental suit due to her race's weaker immune systems, which also has the effect of hiding her physical appearance and facial features. Tali is first introduced on her Pilgrimage, a quarian rite where young adults leave to obtain a gift for a captain so as to be allowed to join their crew.[1] Having completed this after the first game, her design in Mass Effect 2 and 3 reflects her new maturity.[2] In both Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, Tali's default appearance can be changed to various alternate outfits; Mass Effect 2 unlocks one outfit by completing her loyalty mission while another requires buying the 'Alternate Appearance Pack 2',[3] and Mass Effect 3 offers one alternate from the start and unlocks another by buying the From AshesDLC.[4]
She is a skilled technician and engineer, and renowned in the quarian Migrant Fleet, the spaceship collective home to the race.[5] She has additional pressure to excel as the daughter of Admiral Rael'Zorah, though the Admiralty position is not technically hereditary.[6] Her father was also strict and had high expectations, and tried to set an example for the rest of the fleet;[7] this made him distant and saddened Tali.[8] Thanks to her father, she also received some of the best military training available on the fleet.[8] Tali is very loyal to the fleet, and her voice actress Liz Sroka describes her as willing to sacrifice her life for it.[9] Sroka uses an accent described as 'unidentifiable pseudo-Eastern European, quarian Gypsy' to voice the character.[9]
'She's so tough and so strong and so sarcastic and direct; but we got to see in Mass Effect 2 how vulnerable she can be. I see Tali as having quietly kept the innocence she had when she first started out on her pilgrimage as she toughens up and learns how grueling the galaxy can be.'
â Liz Sroka, in an interview with The Gaming Liberty[9]
Sroka described her as being 'grounded in her beliefs' but also having a certain 'humility' to her.[9] Sroka also underlined her vulnerability, which she felt was one of the character's strengths.[9] She described the possible romance with player-character Commander Shepard as her 'sexual awakening', which she also felt helped demonstrate the character's vulnerability.[9]
Tali's name changes over the course of the series. Her birth ship was the Rayya, as evidenced by her full name in the first game ('Tali'Zorah nar Rayya'). At the start of Mass Effect 2, she is called Tali'Zorah vas Neema, showing that, having completed her Pilgrimage, she has become part of the crew of the Neema. During her loyalty mission in 2, her name changes to 'vas Normandy', as she officially joins Commander Shepard's crew.
Creation and development[edit]
Tali, as she appears in the first Mass Effect. Her appearance differs from future games, where the design would be refined, and is less 'mature'[2][10]
Tali initially served as the only example of a quarian.[10] Initial concept drawings for Tali and the quarians were finished before the geth's, but the final geth design then influenced the quarian look.[10] More extreme designs for her Mass Effect 2 appearance were discarded for a 'more polished' version of her original 'iconic' look instead.[10] Her final new appearance was chosen as it distinguished the character from other quarians introduced in the second game.[10] Tali's Mass Effect 3 redesign proved difficult due to the team's passionate views about her character, though ME3's art director, Derek Watts, felt that most fans had been supportive of the changes to characters' designs.[11]
During BioWare's naming meetings, prior to the release of the first game, Tali's name had been 'Talsi Orah', with Orah as the familiar name.[12] However, this was changed for both its connotations of softness, which did not fit with the direction they wanted to take the character, and its awkward pronunciation.[12]
New York City actress Ash ('Liz') Sroka voices Tali throughout the Mass Effect trilogy,[13] her first role in a video game.[9] Sroka auditioned for three different roles: the female Commander Shepard, Tali'Zorah, and one other female character.[9] After initially receiving the role of Tali, she was still unsure of how much material there was.[9]Ginny McSwain gave voice direction, and would generally take two takesâthe first to use, the second as back-up, and occasionally a third or more if the recording did not fit with what she wanted.[9] Recording sessions would generally last about four hours.[9] Sroka herself is not a gamer, though she says she enjoys the character of Tali and is happy to have landed the role.[9]
Like Garrus Vakarian, Tali was not an option for player romantic pursuit in the first game as the developers were unsure whether the alien characters would be emotionally compelling. Tali's romance event tree was added in Mass Effect 2 due to fan demand and her ability to express human emotion.[14][15] This romance, if pursued in the second game, can be continued in Mass Effect 3.[16] The romance event tree in 2 was written by Patrick Weekes.[17]Mass Effect 2 lead writer Mac Walters commented that '[t]he choice should be in 'who' you romance, not so much 'how', with each of the characters having different-natured romances depending on their individual personalities.[18]
Each squad member in Mass Effect 2 had music composed for them, intended to convey their character; BioWare gave the composers detailed character studies for each to help.[19] Tali's theme was created by Jimmy Hinson, who had generally made game remixes beforehand.[19] Hinson worked from his home in Tennessee and made his pieces using FL Studio 9.[19] Although they were given full access to the game's content, Hinson chose to avoid looking beyond what he absolutely needed to look at to write the tracks, due to wanting to experience the game fresh upon its release.[19] In addition to Tali, Hinson also wrote tracks for Samara and Grunt, as well as various other tracks in the game.
'A lot of people want to have her face revealed and obviously people are going to be pissed off either way. Like, 'I thought she was going to look beautiful!' or, 'I thought she was going to be the most hideous thing ever!' So we've had a lot of debate over Tali's face, but that's the one we kind of dread a lot. We're always, 'Well, let's talk about something else for a while!' That's something we're going to have to decide.'
â Derek Watts, Mass Effect 3 art director, Xbox World 360 interview, June 29, 2011[11][20]
The game artists regularly drafted variations on Tali's face throughout the series' development.[21] BioWare's position on whether to reveal her face was a long-standing internal debate,[21] and the developers announced they were still unsure during Mass Effect 3's development.[11][20] Concept artist Matt Rhodes felt it would interesting to see how players compared her personality to her appearance, and how they would respond to an appearance that challenged their expectations as 'a little too alien, just a little too repellant'.[21] They were aware that either decision would likely annoy some people, and that no reveal could universally fit all views of Tali.[11][20] BioWare wished to unveil her face in a 'tasteful way' outside of the game engine, and decided that a gift from Tali would be the best way.[22] A stock photo was used to ensure the face's closeness to a real photograph.[22] An in-game photo of Tali's face is available as a gift to the player-characterCommander Shepard upon pursuing her Mass Effect 3 romance event tree.
BioWare considered not making Tali a squadmate in Mass Effect 3. Some writers, such as Weekes, felt passionately about her inclusion, which led the team to believe that the players could share his passion.[23] Preston Watamaniuk, lead designer for the Mass Effect series, found Tali's death in 3 was the toughest for him to plan, though felt it needed to be possible due to the option of wiping out the quarians.[24]
Appearances[edit]Mass Effect[edit]
The first game of the trilogy, 2007's Mass Effect, marks Tali's first appearance. Whilst on her Pilgrimage, Tali discovers that a rogue Spectre (elite agent of the galaxy's central government),[25][26]Saren, is working with the geth and has attacked Eden Prime, humanity's first space colony. She arranges for a meeting to trade with the Shadow Broker, but is betrayed by its organizer, the thug Fist, who pretends to organize a meeting but instead has sent her into an ambush. Commander Shepard, the player-character, rescues her. Tali gives the evidence to the Commander, and Saren consequently loses his Spectre status. Shepard is then sent to hunt down Saren, and Tali joins the player-character's squad. Tali can join the player-character on missions and is available for personal conversation aboard Shepard's spaceship, the Normandy.
On board the Normandy, Tali is initially excited to be there, intrigued by the advanced technology used to power the Normandy, and stays in the engine room as a result. The next time Shepard speaks to her, though, Tali now seems saddened and withdrawn. She tells Shepard that she's losing sleep, since the Normandy's engines run so quietly compared to ships in her home flotilla, where quiet ships indicate a bad engine or a malfunctioning air filter, plus the ship, due to how it's spread out, seems emptier. This results in Tali feeling slightly homesick and she ponders if the true purpose of the Pilgrimage is to remind her people what they still have. The next time Shepard speaks to her, Tali's spirits are back up, having adjusted to living on the Normandy, plus how the crew has been treating her like one of their own, especially Shepard. She thanks Shepard for this, saying that Quarians are treated as second-class citizens by other races and Shepard is the first to treat her as an equal. If the player completes a particular side-mission involving the geth and then speak to Tali afterwards, she will ask if she can have a copy of the geth data that Shepard recovered, explaining that it is exactly what she needs to complete her Pilgrimage. If the player allows her to have a copy, Tali is overly happy, promising to pay back Shepard by helping them defeat Saren. If the player declines, Tali will still promise to stay to fight Saren, but will then leave afterwards so she can finish her Pilgrimage.
Mass Effect 2[edit]Mass Effect 1 Quarian Armor Of God
Tali returns in the 2010 sequel, during the game's second mission on the human colony world Freedom's Progress, leading a group of quarians in search of a quarian named Veetor, who is on his own Pilgrimage. The colony has been attacked by the 'Collectors,' its human colonists abducted, and Tali agrees to work with Shepard in order to help search for Veetor, over the objections of her team. The quarian team rush to Veetor's location only to be defeated by mechanical guards that have been reprogrammed to shoot on sight by the fearful Veetor; Shepard's squad arrives too late to save all of the quarians, but they manage to eliminate the guards and calm Veetor. After learning what Veetor witnessed during the attack, Shepard can either send Veetor back to the Migrant Fleet with Tali to be treated for his trauma, or to hand the quarian over to Cerberus, Shepard's employers, for further questioning about the Collectors.
Tali later appears on the planet Haestrom, a former quarian colony, where Shepard is sent to recruit her. She and a team of quarian soldiers were sent to investigate a star aging faster than usual and are under attack by a geth patrol that spotted their activity. After Shepard eliminates the attacking geth and meets her in the bunker in which she had been trapped with her equipment, Tali departs with Shepard on the mission to investigate and stop the Collectors, receiving permission from the Admiralty Board after the fact.
Tali's 'loyalty mission,' an optional mission that reveals more of a squad member's past that is meant to increase loyalty, puts her on trial before the Admiralty Board, facing possible exile for bringing active geth parts to the Flotilla, a charge she denies. Tali admits to Shepard that she did send her father inert geth components to develop more effective weapons, but asserts that they could not spontaneously activate. When the Normandy crew arrives on the vessel hosting the trial, Tali is referred to as 'Tali'Zorah vas Normandy,' an unexpected revelation that she has been formally reassigned without any notice; this development means that Shepard, as Tali's captain, will represent her in trial. The admirals reveal during the trial that geth have taken over a ship, the Alerei, and that Tali's father was on the ship when the geth took over and he is presumed dead. Given the evidence supporting the grave accusations, Tali has the option to board the Alerei to search for evidence of her innocence and to clear the geth infestation; on board the Alerei, Tali and Shepard discover her Rael'Zorah's remains and logs documenting his experiments on the geth, reactivating and assembling the components Tali sent him, and that he is to blame for the attack. Tali asks Shepard not to reveal the information they discover, as it would disgrace his otherwise good name. At the trial, the player chooses whether Shepard withholds the new evidence (Tali is exiled with Rael'Zorah's good name intact), submits it (Tali is innocent at the cost of her father's reputation), or incites the crowd to show popular support for Tali and her previous service record (Tali is found innocent without disgracing her father).
Tali can die during the final mission of the gameâthe 'Suicide Mission'âdepending on the player's choices. Her chances of dying increase if the player submits the evidence against her will, or does not complete her loyalty mission.
Mass Effect 3[edit]
Unless the player imports a Mass Effect 2saved game where Tali cannot appear in Mass Effect 3, Tali shows when the Commander moves to recruit the quarian fleet in the fight against the Reapers, powerful sapient cyborgs with intentions to destroy all life. Tali joins the squad, and her conversation options tell of the quarians' new attack on the now Reaper-allied geth, in a bid by the quarians to try and reclaim their homeworld. Depending on the player's choices in the second game, Tali may either be an Admiral or merely an advisor on how to defeat the geth. Eventually, the player must choose between saving the geth or the quarians, or, if certain conditions are fulfilled, negotiating a stand-down and saving both parties. If the player sides with the geth and lets the quarians die, Tali kills herself; otherwise, she fully joins the squad and can be found interacting with other Normandy crew members. Admiral Shala'Raan vas Tonbay fulfills Tali's role in saved games where Tali cannot appear in-game. Shala'Raan does not join Shepard's squad.
The downloadable add-on Citadel adds a number of character moments for Tali, including (depending on dialogue and event choices or whether Shepard is in a romance with her) revealing her love of romantic movies, her talent for singing and doing impressions of the Normandy, and the fact she cannot hold her liquor very well.
Mass Effect: Homeworlds[edit]
The second issue of the comic Homeworlds was revealed to focus around Tali's past.[27] Released on May 30, 2012, the issue tells of the beginning of her Pilgrimage, and the events leading up to her appearance in the first game. Originally intending to take the quarian ship Honorata to the planet Illium, along with Keenah'Breizh, in search of valuable items, they discover geth activity on an unidentified ice planet. Tali extracts the memory core from one of the geth, and discovers a recording of a conversation between Saren and Matriarch Benezia discussing the attack on Eden Prime.
Once they arrive at Illium, the crew is attacked a group of mercenaries including Commander Jacobus, hired by Saren, leaving Tali and Keenah the only survivors. The two stowaway on a ship to the Citadel, though are uncovered and turned over to C-Sec once they arrive. Though they try to tell of the evidence they have found, they are ignored and told to leave the Citadel. Later, they are suddenly attacked by Jacobus, injuring Tali and mortally wounding Keenah. After being chased through the Citadel, Tali eventually traps Jacobus in an incinerator, killing him, though Keenah collapses and dies.
Tali then arrives at Dr. Michel's clinic, who treats her wounds. She is told to go to the bar Chora's Den by Barla Von, and put into contact with the Shadow Broker, setting the stage for her entry into the first Mass Effect game.
Reception[edit]
Tali has received a positive critical response. Writing for UGO, Evan Saathoff listed Tali as his fourth best video game companion, comparing her as the 'innocent, girl next door experience' to the sexiness of Halo's Cortana.[28]GamesRadar's Carolyn Gudmundson listed Tali as one of several video game characters she'd 'go gay for', noting her 'kind personality and air of mystery', as well as her technical genius and accent.[29] Upon hearing news for a potential Mass Effect film, Dan Ryckert of Game Informer looked at the different characters and felt Famke Janssen would be best suited to play the role of Taliâdue to having a similar body to the character and having played Xenia Onatopp, a Russian-accented soldier, in the 1995 Bond filmGoldenEye.[30]
Within the trilogy, Tali is one of the most popular characters,[31] with various sources describing her as a fan favorite.[23][32][33] Steven Hopper, writing for IGN, listed her as his second favorite Mass Effect teammate after Garrus Vakarian, praising her 'endearing geekiness' and the story that follows her.[34] Similarly, UGO's Sal Basile listed her as the fourth best squadmate in Mass Effect 3, giving credit to her in-game abilities.[35] Kirk Hamilton, of Kotaku, also felt her one-on-one dialogue scene in Citadel was the best out of all the squadmates'.[36] A poll of series fans held for the 2016 edition of Guinness World Records: Gamer's Edition showed that Tali was the second most popular romantic choice among respondents, with 28% of the vote, just behind Liara T'Soni at 29% of the vote.[37]
Nevertheless, PC Gamer's Andy Kelly listed the character as one BioWare character he hated, expressing confusion at her popularity and calling her 'One of the dullest characters in BioWare history.'[38]
Tali's face[edit]
Tali's face, as depicted in a photo in Mass Effect 3. The image was criticized for its stock photo origins.
Tali's unmasked face and its potential appearance have been subject to discussion by both critics and fans. Video game developer for BioWare Casey Hudson, in an interview, acknowledged depictions of Tali's face as the most common fan art.[39] Jordan Boughman, writing for GamesRadar, highlighted a piece of fan art that he enjoyed and which a BioWare developer had retweeted.[40] Before the face was revealed, IGN's Scott Nichols ran an article about the possibility of revealing the face, concluding that fans did not just want to see her face but also 'the expressions it can make, adding yet another level of emotional depth and complexity to a fan favorite character'.[32] GamesRadar's Mikel Reparaz listed it as one of the 12 gaming mysteries he wanted solved in 2011, and hoped that it would be something unusual-looking;[41] this sentiment was echoed by fellow GamesRadar writer Tyler Nagata, who felt that the face should be ugly.[31]PC Gamer's Tom Francis also included the face in their list of 15 things he wanted to see in Mass Effect 3.[33]
Once the face was revealed, it was met with wide criticism from fans, particularly for being a stock photo (of Miss England model Hammasa Kohistani).[42][43] GameZone's Matt Liebl felt that the issue was not as big as fans had made it out to be.[42] Some fans proceeded to make their own faces, such as a piece by deviantArt artist 'K4ll0' that Kotaku's Luke Plunkett compared favorably to the actual face.[44]
Promotion and merchandise[edit]
Like other characters in the trilogy, Tali has been subject to various merchandise. DC Direct included Tali their first line of Mass Effect 2 squadmate figures, first revealed in January 2010 and then released in April 2011.[45][46] A second figure was announced during Comic-Con 2012, as part of Square Enix's second line of Play Arts Kai Mass Effect figures (along with the female Shepard).[47] BioWare also officially endorsed an originally fan-made plushie of the character, selling it on their online store.[48]Dark Horse's Mass Effectplaying cards feature Tali as the Queen of Hearts, alongside other Mass Effect 2 characters in other roles.[49][50]
